Parallel Computing Environment

Our parallel computing cluster can be accessed remotely to its server with the folowing software tools:

• Linux Operating system (DebianSqueeze Release 6.0.1) with message passing libraries: MPI and PVM (Parallel Virtual Machine);

• Compilers: Intel 32-bit and 64-bit Fortran Compiler for Linux.

The parallel cluster consists of dual-processor and multi-core workstations:

• 8 nodes of Dell PowerEdge 1750 workstations with dual 32-bit Intel Xeon CPU (3.06GHz, 0.5MB cache) and 2 or 4GB memory per node (16 CPUs): bmllcc101, ..., bmllcc104b

• 8 nodes of Dell PowerEdge 1850 workstations with dual 64-bit Intel Xeon CPU (3.4GHz, 2MB cache) and 2GB memory per node (16 CPUs): bmllserver, bmllcc204, ... bmllcc206b, ..., bmllcc207b

• 2 nodes of Dell PowerEdge R410 workstations with dual quad-core 64-bit Intel Xeon 5500 CPU (2.26GHz, 8MB cache) and 6GB memory per node (16 CPUs): bmllcc301, bmllcc302

• 1 nodes of Dell PowerEdge R710 workstation with dual six-core 64-bit Intel Xeon 5600 CPU (2.26GHz, 12MB cache) and 12GB memory per core (12 CPUs): bmllcc401

• Connected by a 24-port network switch (Dell PowerConnect 2624) of up to 1000Mbps data transfer rate and a PC based router.

• A PowerEdge 1850 node (bmllserver) with 2GB memory and 73 GB hard drive for user to log in and compute.
