Parallel Computing Environment

 

Our parallel computing cluster consists of one server and 16 nodes of dual-processor workstations or 32 processing elements.

One duo-processor server:

Linux Operating system with message passing libraries: MPI and PVM ( Parallel Virtual Machine);

Compilers: Intel Fortran Compiler for Linux (Intel) and Fortran77/90 and C++ from Portland Group, Inc. (PGI).

Sixteen-node cluster of dual-processor workstations:

8 nodes of Dell Poweredge 1750 workstations with dual 32-bit Xeon 3.06GHz CPU (0.5MB cache) and 4 or 2GB memory per node, 

8 nodes of Dell Poweredge 1850 workstations with dual 64-bit Xeon 3.4GHz CPU (2MB cache) and 2GB memory per node, 

Peak performance: 105 Gflops (1 Gflops = 10^9 floating-point operations per second);

Connected by a 24-port network switch (Dell PowerConnect 2624) of up to 1000Mbps data transfer rate and a PC based router.
